Couple Therapy

Couple therapy, also known as couples counselling or marriage counselling, is a process in which a therapist works with couples to address challenges and improve their relationship.

In couple therapy, Jyotsna works with couples to help them overcome negative patterns, emotions, and fears that are impacting their relationship. The sessions focus on exploring each other’s feelings, addressing attachment-related insecurities, and learning new ways of interacting with each other. Jyotsna helps couples to develop effective communication strategies that can improve their communication skills and address any challenges they may be facing.

This may involve teaching couples active listening skills, helping them identify and challenge assumptions, and encouraging them to express themselves honestly and respectfully.

How to Deal with Cultural Differences in a Relationship

Today’s world is characterized by more people migrating to new countries and adapting to new situations for professional, educational, political, or just for adventures. Marriage between people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds is becoming increasingly common. When two people marry from different ethnicity or race, it is not only the differences in native language or religion, but also a host of cultural differences associated with such factors as values, beliefs and how to preserve one’s identity especially where personal boundaries and family members roles are defined very differently. Similarly, parenting in interracial couples with different ethnicity can present wonderful opportunities for children and parents as well as significant hurdles. Having been in an intercultural marriage herself, Jyotsna encourages couples to step outside of their restrictive cultural identities to see one another with greater clarity, as individuals. By taking the time to listen to one another’s stories in an objective setting, a new level of understanding may be reached, and obstacles can be overcome: a plan for moving forward can be basis for growth, self-reflection, and change.
