Expatriate Counselling
Expatriate Counselling
Expatriate counselling is a specialized type of therapy that focuses on the unique challenges faced by individuals and families living outside of their home country. Moving to a new country can be a rewarding experience, but it can also be overwhelming and stressful. Language barriers, cultural differences, and social isolation can all contribute to feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness.
For diplomats, corporate executives, and their families, the challenges can be even greater. Living in multiple cultures and navigating professional and personal relationships in a new environment can be a daunting task.
Jyotsna has worked and lived in Netherlands, Greece, Switzerland, Japan, India, and now in Canada and has a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by expats, especially diplomats and their families. Her personal experience as a former diplomat’s wife gives her a unique perspective and understanding of the challenges faced by expats and their families, which can be helpful in providing effective counselling services.
She specializes in cultural identity counselling that focuses on helping people from diverse cultural backgrounds to cope with challenges related to their ethnicity, race, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other cultural factors.
The goal of cultural identity counselling is to empower individuals to better understand themselves and their cultural heritage, as well as to navigate the complexities of living in a diverse society. This type of counselling can help individuals develop positive coping mechanisms and promote resilience, as well as reduce stress and anxiety related to cultural differences.
Cultural identity counselling can be particularly beneficial for individuals who are experiencing difficulties related to cultural identity, such as discrimination, prejudice, or feelings of marginalization. It can also be useful for those who are struggling to reconcile conflicting cultural values, beliefs, and practices.
