Intergenerational Mediation and Geriatric Counselling
Intergenerational Mediation and Geriatric Counselling
With over 15 years of experience working with seniors in hospital medicine and mental health units, Jyotsna specializes in providing comprehensive psycho-social assessments that are tailored to the unique needs and circumstances of older adults. She can also assist primary care physicians by providing cognitive testing and other geriatric assessments to help screen for vulnerabilities and assess the mental state and cognition of their patients. Using standardized screening tools, such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCa) and Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), she identifies potential red flags that may indicate an older adult’s ability to understand information relevant to making decisions and comprehend the consequences of their decisions, whether it is in relation to wills, financial decisions, or medical decisions. The assessment also includes obtaining collateral information from family members related to the person’s current or previous functioning. This information is used to develop personalized care plans that consider the older adult’s specific needs and circumstances.
Jyotsna helps families navigate conflicts and misunderstandings and promotes healthy communication and understanding among family members through intergenerational mediation. Family dynamics can play a significant role in the well-being of older adults, and she recognizes the importance of addressing family issues to ensure her clients receive the support they need.
Furthermore, she can collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including social workers, nurses, and physicians, to provide a multidisciplinary approach to geriatric care that addresses all aspects of her clients’ well-being. She also offers geriatric counseling services to help older adults build resilience and acceptance, strengthen their core beliefs, and adapt to the changes that come with aging. Additionally, she provides education and resources to families on aging-related topics such as dementia care, end-of-life planning, and caregiver stress management.
Jyotsna recognizes the unique challenges and complexities that come with aging and is committed to supporting her clients in achieving their goals and maintaining their quality of life.
